Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs - Do a collage of your own version of the story with people and food from magazines. Discuss what kinds of food you would like to have for weather.
Mouse Paint - Put eyes and a tail on some cotton balls, and dip them in paint as the mice walk in the different colors of paint. Discover what happens when you mix the different colors.
Fun / No Fun - Draw pictures of things you think are fun or not fun and make your own book.
Hansel and Gretel (Picture Puffins) - Make your own trail of crumbs or pebbles to follow back home, then make gingerbread houses using graham crackers, frosting, and candy.
The Gingerbread Man (Easy-to-Read Folktales) - Look for the gingerbread man then make, decorate, and eat gingerbread cookies.
Stone Soup - Make some stone soup as you read the book, adding the ingredients when the book does, then eat it.
Harold and the Purple Crayon - On a large piece of paper draw a picture with a purple crayon pretending to have your own adventure in the picture as you draw it.
Green Eggs and Ham (I Can Read It All by Myself Beginner Books) - Eat some eggs and ham in strange places: in a box, in the rain, in the bathtub, under a table, with a pet, etc.
Cinderella (Look and Play) - Play musical shoes; put one shoe of each person on a chair and when you stop, if the shoe fits, you win.
Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You : Dr. Seuss's Book of Wonderful Noises (Bright and Early Board Books) - Tape sounds of the things in the book and then tape yourself making those sounds.
Tops & Bottoms (Caldecott Honor Book) - Gather fruits and vegetables that are tops and bottoms and "plant" them in a tub of sand; then wash them off and eat them.
Curious George Rides a Bike - Follow the instructions for making a newspaper hat.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Eat each of the things that the caterpillar ate and discover how full you are. Why was the caterpillar so full? Cut "C" vegetables (carrots, cauliflower, celery) in circular, bite-size pieces and arrange them in a caterpillar shape on a plate covered with ranch dip.

Zagazoo - Anyone who has children, or intends to have children, or has seen children, needs to read this book. It just puts the whole raising kids thing in the right perspective. Just a little encouragement on those days when you are sure someone has swapped your children for some little aliens.

Few things in life are more fun and rewarding than curling up on the couch with your kids and a good book. If you truly want your kids to learn to read well, then READ TO THEM EVERY DAY! There is no better way to teach your kids that reading is fun and interesting.
